CARNIVAL OF THE GILLES OF BINCHE

On November 7th 2003, the Carnival of Binche was recognized by Unesco as a masterpiece of oral and intangible heritage of humanity.
On Mardi Gras there is a parade with more than 900 Gilles.

Sunday gras - February 14th
From 9.00: Fancy dress, viols and drums.
From 15.30: Parade of the carnival societies. Departure from the station, direction avenue de Burlet, avenue, Wanderpepen, avenue Charles Deliège and dispersal of the parade on the Grand-Place.

Monday gras - February 15th
From 9.00 to 13.00: Youth on the viol.
At 15.00: Music, rondeau of friendship with the children on the GRAND-PLACE. Orange throwing. After that, the societies go to the square of the station.
At 19.00: Firework - square of the station.

    Comment:

    Mardi gras - 16 February
    At 9 am: Gilles, Peasants, Pierrots and Harlequins. Departure at the train station, direction Rue de Robiano, Rue de la Gaieté and arrival on the Grand Place. Reception at City hall, Gilles and Peasants wear the traditional mask.
    From 3.30 pm to 6 pm: Procession of Gilles, Peasants, Pierrots and Harlequins. Departure on the Avenue Charles Deliège (in front of the Peasant statue) direction of the Grand-Place. The Gill wears his feathered hat and throws oranges along the trail. Arrival on the GRAND-PLACE for the rondo.
    As from 7.30 pm: Torchlight procession and rondo.
    Around 9.30 pm: fireworks.
